Jyotisar is considered to have been the site of the beginning of the Mahabharata conflict, where Lord Krishna delivered the eternal message of the Gita to Arjuna on the eve of the fight. Adi Sankaracharya is supposed to have discovered the location during a pilgrimage to the Himalayas in the 9th century. The king of Kashmir built a Shiva shrine at the tirtha around 1850 A.D. The King of Darbhanga constructed a stone platform around the sacred banyan tree in 1924, which according to devouts is the evidence of the melody celestial, i.e. Gita. As early as 1967, the Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kama Koti Peetha. It was placed on the platform facing east, showing Gita Updesha. Because of the rage of the mediaeval invaders, the tirtha in the past may have consisted of the ancient temple, but they could not last. On the main platform of the temple is a piece of ancient architecture from the 9th or 10th century. A nightly light and sound performance in Hindi and English is presented by Haryana Tourism.<\/p>\n<h2>How to get Geetakunj Jyotisar<\/h2>\n<p><strong>To Get There: By Plane<\/strong><br \/>\nThe closest airports to Kurukshetra are in Delhi and Chandigarh, both of which are accessible by road and train. The airports also provide taxi services. Kurukshetra is about 160 kilometres from Delhi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Get There: By Train<\/strong><br \/>\nOn the major Delhi-Ambala railway line is Kurukshetra Junction, popularly known as the Kurukshetra Railway Station. The city of Kurukshetra has excellent transportation links to the rest of the country&#8217;s major cities. This is where the Shatabadi Express comes to a rest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Get There: Road<\/strong><br \/>\nRoadways of Haryana Transit buses, as well as those operated by nearby State Corporations, link Kurukshetra to other major cities like Chandigarh and Delhi. Buses to Delhi (160 Km), Ambala (40 Km) and Karnal (39 Km) are accessible often.
